What is a Traineeship?
Traineeships are jobs that combine work and structured training. Although they vary from one industry to another.

Traineeships include:

  • Employees participating in Traineeships earning while they learn. Paid employment under an appropriate industrial arrangement (for example, an award or enterprise agreement) which can be delivered both on and off the job.
  • A Training Contract that is signed by both the employer and apprentice or trainee and registered with the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET). The only exceptions to this rule are trainee apprentices.
  • A qualification, delivered by a Registered Training Organisation that meets the requirements of a declared apprenticeship or traineeship in NSW and leads to a nationally recognised qualification. The length of a Traineeship can vary from 12 months to approx. 3 years

N/E : New Entrant Traineeships ( Government Incentives)
New Entrants are Employees of any age, with less than three months full time service with the current employer or equivalent part time service.

E/W : Existing Worker Traineeships (Employer Funded - FFS & Government Incentives)

Traineeship Fees
When a person is enrolled into a Traineeship, an Administration Fee will need to be paid. This administration fee will then need to be paid annually, each current year of the Traineeship, as set by the Department of Education and Training (DET). On most occasions this fee is agreed to be paid by the Employer.

  • Act as a role model
  • Meet with the RTO on a regular basis
  • Provide feedback and encouragement
